December was a very busy month at Tender Years. The teachers conducted many holiday projects, Santa came to visit, and we had a wonderful Christmas program. Thank you to everyone who supported our Sub-for-Santa and food drive. Monday January 16th is Martin Luther King Day. Please make sure to let the office know if you will not be here.

We apologize for the late arrival of the newsletter this month. It has been rather busy at our household. My husband and I welcomed our daughter, Afton, into this world on Dec. 27th. Thank you for all the well wishes many of you have sent. I will be taking a short maternity break so there will be no Scholastic book orders this month.

Scholastic Book Orders

Scholastic book orders will be in February.

Infants, Waddlers, & Toddlers

Please check your child’s cubbie of spare clothes to make sure they have a full set and that it’s weather appropriate. It is very important that you label everything as well. There have been some unusually warm days this month. Please make sure the older babies have a winter coat in case we go outside on these warmer days for fresh air. The cold, dry weather along with our constant hand washing makes our babies’ skin very dry, please make sure you have labeled lotion here. Please try not to leave car seats here unless it is absolutely necessary; they take up a lot of space in our room.

2 YEAR OLDS

Miss Nicolle – January 18th is Pajama Day in our class. Come in your favorite PJ’s! This month we are working hard on our shapes. Check our curriculum so you can practice at home. Make sure to label ALL your belongings and that your child’s cubbie has a full change of weather appropriate clothes. Everyday there is a note posted on our door with your child’s name on it to give you information about your child’s day; please make sure that you take this home and check their art folder regularly. Potty Training Tip: Give your child some kind of a reward when they use the potty so it becomes a special event that they can feel proud of.

Miss Mayra – Wednesday, January 18th is our Pajama Party! Please come in your PJ’s! Please bring in a family photo that we can keep and cut; it does not have to be professional. Remember to take your child’s blanket home on Fridays to be washed and then return on Monday. To help prevent mix-ups, please hang your child’s coat and backpack on their labeled hook and label ALL belongings. Happy Birthday Jaylah on January 3rd.

3 YEAR OLDS

Miss Yoli – Thank you to all the parents who supported our Christmas program and holiday party. We hope you had a wonderful holiday. Make sure to check your child’s art folder regularly so you can share in their masterpieces! Please label ALL items including small things like hats and gloves. Make sure there is a full change of clothes (shirt, pants, socks, and underwear) at all times in your child’s cubbie. Please only bring toys for Show-and-Tell. Toys from home often get lost and can start arguments between children. We are collecting shoe boxes with lids for our Valentines Day boxes. If you have any please bring them to our class. Happy Birthday Jacob (6th), Cameron (11th), Molly (15th), Hudson (28th), and Cooper (28th).

PRE – KINDERGARTNERS

Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported our Christmas program. We were so proud of their hard work and performance. This month we are working very hard on our themes and sounding out short words (such as cat, bat, sad, etc.). Be sure to practice short words at home as well. We are also talking about shapes this month. Have your child point out the different shapes that they see at home, in books, and while driving. Thank you for all your support.

KINDERGARTEN

Please try to bring in a little flashlight if you have one for the week of Jan. 30 – Feb. 3 for our Groundhog Day project. Be sure to watch the news to see if the groundhog sees his shadow. Your child is being sent home with reading words to practice; make sure you read them with your child. We are collecting cans (any kind) and Box Tops for fundraising. If your child brings in more than 10 they will get to pick from the treasure box!

Themes for January:

Jan. 2-6 Weather

Jan. 9-13 Healthy Friends

SCHOOL AGE

January 16th all the children are out of school (North Davis Prep is also out on the 17th). We have some fun activities planned for the day. Please send any homework or projects that your child would need to work on. Homework Club continues to be a huge success. Parents, please let Miss Judy know if you have any special requests or if your child needs extra help or attention on a specific subject. We are still in need of some English/Spanish dictionaries if anyone has some. We have installed a typing program onto our computers for children who are working on typing skills.

___________________________________________________

We are proud and honored to be a part of your child’s physical, social, and educational development.

The month of December will be a busy one here at Tender Years! The teachers have a lot of activities, projects, and parties planned for the holiday season. Make sure to check your child’s curriculum board and check in with their teacher regularly. Our annual Christmas Program will be Dec. 20th. Ages two and up will participate. Details are listed below.

The holidays fall on an interesting schedule this year. Christmas and New Years Day are both on a Sunday. Therefore, Tender Years will NOT be closed any days the month of December. However, we realize that parents will probably be getting an extra day or two off. Therefore, it is EXTREMELY important that you let us know of any days when your child will not be with us. It is crucial to have this information when planning our teachers’ schedules and we would love to give some of them time off during the holidays. Please try to have good communication with the office so we can plan accordingly.

News

Sub-For-Santa

Every year Tender Years sponsors one of our family’s Christmas. Diane will be sending out a flyer that lists the items our family is in need of. There is no obligation to participate in this but if you are able and would like to help please read the flyer and let Miss Diane know what you plan to contribute. There will also be a donation box at our Christmas program for the family. Thank you for your support!

Christmas Program

Our annual Christmas Program will be held on Tuesday, December 20th at 7:00 PM. We are asking that all the children arrive at 6:40 PM so they can prepare for the program. All children ages two and older will participate in the program. The program will be held at the Alpine Church in Layton which is the same location it was held last year. The address is 254 West 2675 North in Layton and all parents will be given a map to the church. As usual, we will be accepting donations for our Sub-for-Santa and cans for the food bank at the front entrance. The children have been practicing the entire month of November and will continue through this month as well. The program should last about 45 minutes and all families and relatives are welcome to attend. We can’t wait for you too see what they have been working on.

Scholastic Book Orders

I will be doing the Scholastic orders much earlier this month to ensure the books arrive before Christmas! Your child’s teacher will give you a catalog. We always have extras in the office as well. Book orders are due to the office by Monday, December 12th.

Santa Clause

Santa will be visiting Tender Years on Wednesday, December 14th at 10:00 am. Every child will have the opportunity to sit with Santa and chat. Santa will bring every child a special treat!

Thank you for supporting our box top and label program!

From the Classrooms

Infants, Waddlers, & Toddlers

This month we are working on self help skills such as holding bottles/sippies and feeding themselves (older babies). Make sure you are using sippy cups at home as well. Our young babies are working on rolling over. We will be having a Holiday party in our baby rooms on Wednesday, December 21st. If you would like to bring a store bought treat to share you are welcome to. Don’t forget to check the diaper board regularly to see your baby’s needs. Please make sure that their change of clothes here is weather appropriate. Please try not to leave car seats here unless it is absolutely necessary; they take up a lot of space in our room.

2 YEAR OLDS

Miss Nicolle – We are so excited for the Christmas Program on December 20th and have been practicing very hard! For the program, please dress your child in a RED top and BLACK bottoms if possible. We will be talking about different cultures and holidays this month. We will have a Holiday Party on Thursday, December 15th. Please send your child with a gender-neutral wrapped gift (please only spend $1-5, nothing expensive). Please let Miss Nicolle know if this is not possible and we will provide one. Make sure to label ALL your child’s belongings, especially coats. Don’t forget to get your child’s daily note that is taped to our door and check their art folder. Potty Training Tip for the Month: You can’t force your child to use the toilet. Instead make sure to give them lots of opportunities to practice. Make frequent trips to the bathroom so that they can try to go and become familiar with the room and process.

Miss Mayra – We can’t wait for the Christmas Program on December 20th and have been working hard to memorize our Christmas songs! For the program, please dress your child in a RED top and BLACK bottoms if possible. We will be talking about different cultures and holidays this month. We will have a Holiday Party on Thursday December 15th. Please send your child with a gender-neutral wrapped gift (please only spend $1-5, nothing expensive). If this is not possible please let Miss Mayra know and we will provide one. It would be very helpful if you could have your gift here by the 13th. Don’t forget to check our coat rack for coats and dirty clothes that need to be washed. Make sure to take your child’s blanket home once a week to be washed. Check your child’s art folder at least once a week. Have a wonderful holiday season!

3 YEAR OLDS

Miss Yoli – We have a lot of special dates to remember this month. Friday, December 2nd and 16th will be Show-and-Tell. Friday, December 9th and Wednesday, December 21st will be Pajama Day.

PRE – KINDERGARTNERS

Teacher Carol has had a great time getting to know the class. She is so excited to be in the Pre-K classroom and loves the children. This month we will be talking a lot about the holidays and how they are celebrated in different cultures and parts of the world. We are practicing letters K – M and reviewing letters A-M. Will be doing a lot of special art work this month to turn our class into a Winter Wonderland! Mark your calendars for our Christmas Program on December 20th. We are practicing every day and excited to show you what we’ve got! Please donate your extra or unwanted magazines for future projects we will be working on. We will be having a Winter party in December. The date will be announced when we finalize the party.

KINDERGARTEN

We are very excited for our Christmas program on December 20th! We have some really fun songs we are doing this year and can’t wait to perform. Please try to dress in a RED top with BLACK bottoms if possible. Miss Deana will be sending home reading lists for your Kindergartner, please have your child read to you. This month we are talking about Christmas around the world. If you have any experience with Christmas in another culture please talk to Deana. December 23rd will be Pajama Day (please no slippers). Miss Deana will start planning Summer Camp in January and would love to come to some of our parents work place. Please talk to her if you are interested in having us take a field trip to your job location!

SCHOOL AGE

Our Christmas Program is on December 20th! We are working on creating a new library in our room. If you have any unwanted books we will happily take them off your hands.

Our kids participated in so many amazing activities in October! Our field trips, parties, projects, and Halloween parade were wonderful. We hope your children had a great time celebrating Halloween with us. This month Tender Years is very grateful for all the wonderful children and families that we so proudly serve.

Tender Years will be CLOSED on Thursday November 24th for Thanksgiving. We will have a sign up sheet posted in the office for Friday November 25th. Please indicate on the sheet whether your child WILL or WILL NOT be here so we know how many children to be staffed for. We need at least 20 children to open that day.

Halloween Parade

Our Halloween Parade was fantastic this year! We had a great turn out and appreciate all the support we received that day. Thank you to our wonderful teachers for getting all the kids ready and making it such a fun day with many Halloween activities and parties. The children also really enjoyed the assembly on Tuesday with a magician. Check out the pictures below!

Pictures

Our pictures should be arriving very shortly. Every child that had their picture taken will receive a packet with several different pictures varying in sizes, backgrounds, and poses. Your packet will also have a price sheet. You do not have to purchase any pictures if you do not want them. If you choose to purchase some, just match the number of sheets to your price, pay with a check to the office, and take your pictures home that very day! Please refer to the office if you have any questions. We are excited to see how wonderful they turned out.

Scholastic Book Orders

Scholastic Books are back! Your child’s teacher will give you a catalog. We always have extras in the office as well. Book orders are due to the office by Monday, November 28th.

Teacher Training

We hope you have enjoyed the bulletin boards posted by our teachers that outline all the rules we have to learn and follow. On top of this, all teachers are required to acquire and renew CPR/First Aid and a food handlers permit and complete 20 hours of training. Many parents have commented to us that they didn’t realize how much we require our teachers to train and follow. We hope this has helped give you a glimpse into how hard these teachers work. We appreciate every single one of them!

Thank you for supporting our box top and label program!

From the Classrooms

Infants, Waddlers, & Toddlers

Our baby rooms recently had their annual observation by the state for our Baby Steps Program. Our teachers did amazing and the observers commented that our program is one of the best they have ever seen. We are so proud of these baby teachers and the quality care they give. This month we are working on self help skills such as holding bottles/sippies and feeding themselves (older babies). Our new babies are working on grasping while the older ones are practicing putting toys together. Thank you for helping with our Box Top program! We reached our goal and would like to reach it again quickly. Don’t forget to check the diaper board regularly to see your baby’s needs. Please make sure that their change of clothes here is weather appropriate. Please try not to leave car seats here unless it is absolutely necessary; they take up a lot of space in our room.

2 YEAR OLDS

Miss Nicolle – Our class will be making Miss Nicole’s famous Pumpkin Pie the week of November 14th in honor of Thanksgiving. We will be working on colors the first two weeks of November. Please check our curriculum calendar that is posted outside our door so you know the color of the day and what to dress your child in. Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labeled and that they have a weather appropriate change of clothes here at all times. Potty Training Tip: there are many rewards you can give your child (toys, candy, stickers, etc) but nothing works better than PRAISE! Give your child lots of positive reinforcement, hugs, kisses, and love when they are working on their potty training.

Miss Mayra – We will be having a Thanksgiving Party on Monday, November 21st. If you would like to send a treat with your child to share please remember that it must be store bought. We will be discussing colors and gratitude a lot this month. Try to discuss this at home as well. The weather is getting colder and it is still important for us to get fresh air so we will still be going outside. Please make sure your child has a coat that is labeled. Make sure to check your child’s coat hook every day. There are many accidents with potty training and the coat hooks is usually where we hang the clothes that need to be taken home and washed. Please check our whiteboard for more announcements and take blankets home once a week to be washed. Be sure to check your child’s art folder so you can take home their wonderful creations.

Miss Tamara – This month we are talking about colors! Please check our calendar outside our door to see what the color of the day is so your child can wear the color. Don’t forget to clip and bring in your Box Tops and Campbell’s Soup labels for our fundraiser program. Please check your child’s art folder on a regular basis. They are proud of their work and want to share it with you. As Thanksgiving approaches I would love to thank all you wonderful parents for the great job you do raising these wonderful children and letting me be a part of their lives.

3 YEAR OLDS

Miss Yoli – We are working on colors this month and what we are thankful for. Our letters for this month are H-K and numbers 8-10. Please practice at home. Make sure your child is dressed in the color of the day (refer to chart below). Talk with your child about being thankful and what they are thankful for so they can share that with the class when we discuss it. We are beginning to practice for our Christmas Program in December. Friday November 25th is Pajama Day! Don’t forget to send your child with their backpack and class folder every day as well as a jacket. Please do not send toys from home as they get lost and often cause fights. Happy Birthday Elijah Jones on Nov. 14th.

COLOR DAYS! 1st – Yellow 2nd – Pink 3rd – Green 4th – Purple 7th – Orange 8th – Blue 9th – Rainbow 10th – Brown 11th – Black and White

PRE – KINDERGARTNERS

This month our themes are colors, rhyming, poetry, Thanksgiving, and self concepts. Our reading goals are letters H, I, and J with a review of letters A-J. Our math goal is numbers 20-40. Please remember to always have a jacket or coat since the weather has changed. Please label them as well. We are sad to report that Teacher Wendy will be leaving us this month; she is moving to Michigan with her family. We will miss her very much and will have a farewell party on November 15th. Teacher Wendy has loved her time with this class and will miss them every day. We are excited to introduce our new Preschool teacher, Carol! Teacher Carol has taught Kindergarten and Preschool and has a wonderful personality. She is very warm and gentle and we know the children will all adore her. She will be in the class with Teacher Wendy these next two weeks to help make an easy transition and get to know the class.

KINDERGARTEN

A big “thank you” to all the kids for a great field trip last month to Black Island Farms. They behaved wonderfully! If your child has morning Kindergarten it is important that they arrive at the center no later then 7:45 AM so we can leave on time. The snow will be coming soon and we will be leaving slightly earlier. We are beginning to practice for our Christmas Program. There will be lots of singing, movement, and art in preparation for this annual event!

Themes for November:

7-11: Shapes

14-18: Native American Culture

21-25: Thanksgiving

28-Dec.2: Transportation

Please check my posted curriculum for details on what we are working on.

SCHOOL AGE

Our field trip last month to Black Island Farms was fantastic. We had a very large group and they all behaved wonderfully. We were very proud of how they represented our school. Thank you Miguel and Penny for volunteering to come with us! Homework club continues to go great. Teacher Judy is fluent in Spanish and helps out a lot with many of the children’s Spanish homework. If you have any extra dictionaries, thesauruses, Spanish/English dictionaries or encyclopedias at home we would happily take them off your hands for Homework Club. If your child does not have homework they need to read a library book for awhile so we can keep the focus in the room until free play. Thank You

Welcome to fall! All the classrooms have been working on art projects for the season. They are very much enjoying the opportunity to be creative. Be sure to look at and take home their finished projects.

There will be a lot of Halloween activities going on this month. Be sure to read about the Halloween Parade and try to work it into your schedule. We love adding Halloween costumes to our dress ups. If you don’t want your child’s costume please feel free to donate it to our school.

Halloween Parade

Our Halloween Parade will be Monday October 31st at 9:30 AM. Parents and family members are welcome and seating will be provided in the gym. We will change your child into and out of their costume so it will not get ruined or dirty. Of course, no weapons will be allowed. After the parade the children will all receive a special Arctic Circle Halloween Happy Meal. A small $4.00 charge will be added to your account. If you choose (certainly not required) to send a treat please make sure it is store bought and does not contain peanuts.

UEA Field Trip

All school age children will be out on Oct. 20-21 for UEA. On Thursday Oct. 20th we will be doing a field trip to Black Island Farms where the children will tour the gardens, go through a corn maze, have lunch, and play on the slides. We will leave at 9:00 AM sharp and return around 3:00 PM. Make sure your child has a jacket and walking shoes. The cost is $4.50. If you would like your child to attend please sign up on the sign up sheet in Deana’s Kindergarten room underneath the clock.

Picture Day

Picture Day is Wednesday Oct. 12! All children that are not in school (babies – preschool) will have their picture taken. You do not have to purchase any pictures but everyone will have them taken. The pictures will be developed and sent to the center. Pictures will start at 7:00 AM.

Scholastic Book Orders

Scholastic Books are back! Your child’s teacher will give you a catalog. We always have extras in the office as well. Books orders are due to the office by Wednesday, Oct. 26th.

Teacher Training

Every year our teachers have to go through a lot of training. They take classes, read articles, and participate in staff training meetings. The Utah State Division of Child Care also requires us to annually retrain our teachers on all of their policies and regulations. This year we have decided to put our training on display for all to see. Our hallways will be filled with posters displaying all the training our teachers go through.

Artwork

At Tender Years we feel that artwork and creativity is very important. We’ve seen some beautiful fall artwork recently. Take a look . . .

Infants, Waddlers, & Toddlers

October is filled with autumn fun! Our Fall Festival is Wednesday, Oct 26th. We will have fun activities in class to celebrate the season. Don’t forget our costume parade on Halloween. We will change your baby in and out of their costume. Come to the parade if you can! Remember to check the diaper board each day so you are aware of what your baby needs. Our young infants are working on self help skills (rolling over, sitting up, army crawl, grabbing, etc.). Be sure to practice at home.

2 YEAR OLDS
Miss Nicolle - We will be having a Halloween party and parade on Monday, Oct. 31st with games and treats. Please send your child’s costume in a LABELED bag with ALL the costume pieces labeled as well. We will change them in and out of their costume. As the weather changes make sure your child has a full change of clothes in their cubbie every day that matches the season. Potty Training Tip: Dress your child in loose fitting pants that are easy for them to get down. Clothing such as onsies, jumpers or overalls are difficult for them to get off when they are in a hurry. Try to have washable shoes (such as Crocs) which are easy to sanitize and clean in case of an accident. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions of how I can help.

Miss Mayra - Try to attend our costume parade on Halloween if your schedule allows it. Please send your child’s costume in a LABELED bag. Make sure ALL pieces of the costume are labeled too. We will change your child into their costume for the parade and then out of it so it does not get dirty. Fall Festival is this month so many of our activities and art projects are centered around the season. Be sure to check your child’s art folder and take home their creations. Don’t forget to take blankets home for the weekend to be washed.

Miss Tamara - Happy Birthday Savannah on the 30th! October is the month of Halloween! Remember our parade on the 31st and please do not send weapons. Make sure your child’s costume has ALL of the pieces labeled. We will change the children in and out of their costume. If you choose to send candy to share on Halloween please provide enough for 12. As the weather cools please make sure your child always has a full change of clothes in their cubbie that is weather appropriate. If you have any unwanted crib sheets, blankets, books, clothes, toys, or art supplies we ALWAYS love these things donated to our class! Thanks!

PRE – KINDERGARTNERS

Welcome back to another school year! We hope your child is as excited as we are. Kindergarten has already began and Preschool starts next week. We will be CLOSED on Monday Sept. 5th for Labor Day. Have a wonderful holiday.
We will be having some small playground construction this month. We are installing some new grass in some areas to provide some soft areas to sit on our playgrounds. Thank you for being patient with our construction.

Summer Camp was a huge success this year. Our field trips were amazing and the kids had a spectacular time. Sign ups for next summer will be posted in March. We have attached some pictures below of the water slides we visited this summer. Thank you Teacher Deana and Judy! We are already looking forward to next year!

A new school year also means classroom changes for some of our children. Preschool will officially begin on Sept. 6th. Our preschool teachers have already begun to prepare for the upcoming year. Our teachers did an excellent job last year preparing them for the next school year and I know that this year we can expect the same results.

Kona Ice Day

Summer is drawing to a close as is Kona Ice Day. We have loved doing it and will most likely continue it next summer. Our last Kona Ice Day for the summer will be Aug 15th. Please feel free to dress your child in a Hawaiian themed outfit. The Kona Ice Van will be here at 10:00 and $1.50 is added to your account.

Summer Camp

We only have a few weeks of Summer Camp left. We could not be happier with how smoothly it has ran this summer. We have been very impressed with the behavior and maturity of this year’s group. Deana and Judy have done an amazing job and have coordinated some of the best activities we’ve ever had. We are already talking about new field trips and projects for next summer! We appreciate all your patience and support this year. I have accompanied many field trips and can honestly say that our teachers and students are supperior in supervision and manners than any other child group I saw.

Parent’s Night Out: August 19th

What is Parent’s Night Out? Once a month some of our teachers host a night where you can bring your child(ren) and have a night to do whatever you like. Babysitters are expensive but Parent’s Night Out only cost $15.00 for the entire night ($10.00 for any additional children). This includes crafts, activities, and dinner. The teachers do a great job of planning many fun things to do so the kids stay occupied and have fun. You do not need to be a current client to take advantage of Parent’s Night Out. All the money earned goes towards new toys, supplies, and equipment for our classrooms. Parent’s Night Out begins at 5:00 PM and ends at 11:00 PM (you can drop/pick up your child whenever you like during that time frame). This month it is on Friday Aug. 19th. Sign up is in the office. You must pre-pay with check or cash.

Scholastic Book Orders

Scholastic Books will start up again at the end of this month. Watch for a catalog with the September newsletter.

Transportation for the 2011-2012 School Year

If your child will be attending school (K-6) this year and you are in need of transportation please sign the form in the hallway if you haven’t already. Every school we transport to is listed. There is also a list for children who will be attending only when they are off track.

INFANTS, WADDLERS, & TODDLERS

We are enjoying this beautiful weather! Please make sure we have labeled sunscreen here for our walks and outside time. Please send a family photo that we can display.

Miss Nicolle – Please keep me informed on how your child’s potty training is going at home so I can continue the training appropriately. Please remember to take your child’s blanket home once a week to be washed. Don’t forget to take home your daily note that is posted on our door.

Miss Mayra – Please label all of your child’s clothes and items with their first and last name. Don’t forget to check our art folders and take home your daily note that is posted on the door.
Miss Tamara – If you have any unwanted books our class would be happy to take them off your hands to increase our library. Some of the children in our class do not have a full change of clothes in their cubbie; please check your child’s cubbie and make sure your child has a full change of clothes. Don’t forget to take home your child’s wonderful art work. Please remember to take home your child’s blanket once a week to be washed.

3 YEAR OLDS

Miss Yoli – Tuesday August 9th is Pajama Day! Wear your comfy PJ’s! If you haven’t already, please bring in a family picture that we can display. Friday is Show-and-Tell. Your child may bring one toy to share (no weapons please). Please only bring toys on on Show-and-Tell days. If you are able, please donate a box of tissues to our class. Preschool starts next month. We are very excited for a new year to begin.

PRE – KINDERGARTNERS

Don’t forget that we have water days on Wednesday! We are preparing for a classroom change. We are excited for these children to start Kindergarten and feel that they are very ready both academically and socially. These wonderful children will be moving up to Miss Deana’s kindergarten class and will go through a full Kindergarten curriculum with her every day. They will grow leaps and bounds next year with her and we are excited for this new journey. Be watching for more information coming the end of this month from Teacher Deana about their Kindergarten class.

SUMMER CAMP

Don’t forget to pick up your weekly note from Teacher Deana or Teacher Judy. These outline all the activities and field trips for the following week and inform you on anything they will need. Water slides will be on Thursday Aug 4th. The children have done amazing with this field trip and we have four teachers constantly patrolling. We could not be happier with how wonderful Summer Camp has gone this year. The children have had an amazing time and we are already looking forward to next summer!

SCHOOL AGE

If your child is still out of school they will be walking to the park on Thurs, Aug 11th. Please make sure you sign the permission form in the office. We will also have a Read-a-Thon and Pajama Day on Friday Aug 12th. Your child may come in their PJ’s and bring their favorite book to read! Popcorn and drinks will be provided! School children, please remember to take all of your belongings off of the van/bus when you arrive at school and at the center.

Tender Years will have a sign up for that day posted in the office. Please indicate whether your child will be here or not so we can staff accordingly.

Our children are really enjoying all of our summer and outdoor activities. Please make sure that they always have sunscreen here that is labeled.

Kona Ice Day

Kona Ice Day has been a huge hit with all of our children. We always love doing special treats and events for the kids. Upcoming Kona Ice Days are July 8th and Aug 15th. Please feel free to dress your child in a Hawaiian themed outfit! The Kona Ice Van will be here at 10:00 on those dates and $1.50 is added to your account.

Summer Camp

Summer Camp has been going perfectly! I had the pleasure of accompanying them to the water slides last Tuesday and I was extremely impressed with how well the children conducted themselves and followed the rules. They had a BLAST! It made me want to attend Summer Camp everyday! Deana and Judy are working very hard to make sure all parents know about upcoming field trips and what to bring. Each week they will give you a note that explains what is happening and needed for the following week. Please send your child prepared for the day’s activities so they can fully enjoy them.

Parent’s Night Out: July 15th

What is Parent’s Night Out? Once a month some of our teachers host a night where you can bring your child(ren) and have a night to do whatever you like! Babysitters are expensive but Parent’s Night Out only cost $15.00 for the entire night ($10.00 for any additional children). This includes crafts, activities, and dinner. The teachers do a great job of planning many fun things to do so the kids stay occupied and have fun. Children not attending the center may come to Parent’s Night Out as long as the parent fills out a form before they leave. All the money earned goes towards new toys, supplies, and equipment for our classrooms. Parent’s Night Out begins at 5:00 PM and ends at 11:00 PM (you can drop/pick up your child whenever you like during that time frame). This month it is on Friday July 15th. Sign up is in the office. You must pre-pay with check or cash.

Scholastic Book Orders

Scholastic Books do not do orders in July. They will start again at the end of August.

Transportation for the 2011-2012 School Year

If your child will be attending school (K-6) next year and you are in need of transportation please sign the form in the hallway. Every school we transport to is listed. Please sign up so we can plan for next year. There is also a list for children who will be attending only when they are off track.

Doughnuts With Dad!

We had a wonderful time celebrating Father’s Day with some of our Dad’s! Hope you enjoyed the breakfast and we will see you again next year!

INFANTS, WADDLERS, & TODDLERS

We are ready to enjoy this beautiful weather! Please make sure we have labeled sunscreen here for our walks and outside time. Please label ALL your child’s diapers, wipes, cups, bottles, blankets, and extra clothes. If you have not signed and returned the Infant Policy handout please do so. We would like to do a water day with some of our older babies. This will be July 6th and 27th. Please send a swimsuit or extra pair of clothes, towel, and sunscreen (all labeled please). Thank you!

2 YEAR OLDS

Miss Nicolle – Please make sure your child always has a full change of clothes in their cubbie. Don’t forget to pick up your daily note that is taped to our door. Every day I post these so you can know how your child’s day was. Dress Hawaiian for kona Ice Day on July 8th and 22nd. Please remember that if your child is wearing flip flops that they need a strap on the back which prevents them from tripping.

Miss Mayra – Have a wonderful 4th of July! Please remember that sandals need to have a strap on the heel which prevents the children from tripping. Please remember to take home your child’s blanket on Fridays to be washed and returned on Mondays. Don’t forget to check your child’s art folder.

Miss Tamara – Happy 4th of July! Don’t forget to check art folders. Please make sure there is a full change of clothes in your child’s cubbie. If they are sent home in their spare clothes please remember to wash and send them back the next day.

3 YEAR OLDS

Miss Yoli – Wear red, white, and blue on Friday July 1st to celebrate Independence Day! Friday is Show-and-Tell. Your child may bring one toy to share (no weapons please). Please only bring toys on on Show-and-Tell days. If you are able, please donate a box of tissues to our class. We still need them even in the summer and our supply is getting low. This month we are working extra hard on writing our names; please practice at home. You can help your child by first talking about what letters are in their name and then writing them. Happy Birthday this month to Henessi and Addison!

PRE – KINDERGARTNERS

Summer is finally here and it’s getting very warm. Please dress for the warm weather but remember that we have air conditioning on so if your child wants to put a jacket in their cubbie they are welcome to. Our class will be having Water Days every Wednesday for the rest of the summer. A note will be posted on our door to remind you and inform you of the things your child will need (swim clothes, towel, and sunscreen). Our class will be starting Kindergarten in 1-2 months. In order to help our class prepare we are phasing out nap time. Please help your child prepare also by adjusting their bedtime so they can get plenty of rest. Don’t forget to empty out your child’s cubbie on Fridays, wash the items, and return them on Mondays.

SUMMER CAMP

Water Day is on Mondays. Please remember to send water clothing and sunscreen. We still require the children to wear shoes during water day so please send shoes that can get wet or an extra pair to change into. If you signed up for the 4th of July parade we are so sad to report that we will not be participating this year due to not enough children being in town. We will plan extra ahead so that we can be a part of this next year. Don’t forget to pick up any notes for upcoming field trips from Deana or Judy.

SCHOOL AGE

Water Days are on Mondays. If your child is out of school please make sure they have water clothes, towel, sunscreen, and shoes that can get wet. We will be walking to the park on July 28th; remember to sign up for the activity in the office. It is also important that we have a signed release form for sunscreen. All schools will be out July 4-25. Year round schools will start up again on Tuesday July 26th. Make sure you are on our transportation list in the hallway so we can planning on picking you up!

Happy Father’s Day to all of our amazing Dads! Please join us in celebration of your fatherhood. On Friday June 10th we will have Doughnuts With Dad. Doughnuts and juice will be provided from 7:00 – 10:00 A.M. in our gym for you and your child to share before you leave for the day.

We will be spending a lot of time outside this summer so it is important that your child has sunscreen in their classroom with their name on it.

Kona Ice Day

All of the children loved our last Kona Ice Day. Upcoming Kona Ice Days are June 10th, June 24th, July 8th, and Aug 15th. Please feel free to dress your child in a Hawaiian themed outfit! The Kona Ice Van will be here at 10:00 on those dates.

Summer Camp

Summer Camp begins this month! We are so excited for all the wonderful activities and field trips we have planned. There are still a few weeks that aren’t full if you are still wanting to sign up. If your child is attending summer camp please read the section under classrooms carefully for important information from Teacher Deana. We will be doing water slides this year! I thought very hard and carefully about this and decided to do it because it is NOT a swimming pool and the pools at the end of the water slides are extremely shallow. There will be several lifeguards on duty as well as Tender Years Employees. Life jackets have been included in the cost and I am making it a requirement for all Kindergartners and 1st graders to wear a life jacket. If your child is older and you want them in a life jacket make sure to let Teacher Deana know. If you have a life jacket you are welcome to send it with your child, please make sure it has their first and last name in it.

Parent’s Night Out: June 24th

What is Parent’s Night Out? Once a month some of our teachers host a night where you can bring your child(ren) and have a night to do whatever you like! Babysitters are expensive but Parent’s Night Out only cost $15.00 for the entire night ($10.00 for any additional children). This includes crafts, activities, and dinner. The teachers do a great job of planning many fun things to do so the kids stay occupied and have fun. All the money earned goes towards new toys, supplies, and equipment for our classrooms. Parent’s Night Out begins at 5:00 PM and ends at 11:00 PM (you can drop/pick up your child when ever you like in that time frame). This month it is on Friday June 24th. Sign up is in the office. You must pre-pay with check or cash.

Scholastic Book Orders

Scholastic catalogues are handed out by teachers and there are also extras in the office, be sure to pick one up. Ordering books through Scholastic is the least expensive way to buy books for your children. Book orders are due June 24th.

Transportation for the 2011-2012 School Year

If your child will be attending school (k-6) next year and you are in need of transportation please sign the form in the hallway. Every school we transport to is listed. Please sign up so we can plan for next year. There is also a list for children who will be attending only when they are off track.

Kindergarten and Preschool Graduation

Our kindergartners and preschoolers had their graduation ceremony in May. We are extremely proud of their progress and accomplishments this school year. Teacher Deana and Teacher Wendy have done an excellent job preparing them for the upcoming school year.

INFANTS, WADDLERS, & TODDLERS

Thank you for using the West side door when you enter the Infant or Waddler room. This helps keep germs off of our carpet. We have recently passed out two forms to you, an Infant Survey and a Policies List. If you have not received these let us know and please return them promptly. With the warm weather approaching please make sure your child’s extra change of clothes is weather appropriate. If you haven’t already, make sure your baby has labeled sunscreen. We will be taking the strollers out for walks very soon. Happy Birthday Tavian (June 4th) and Bryson (June 30th).

2 YEAR OLDS

Miss Nicolle – Happy Father’s Day to all you wonderful dads! Be sure to work on potty training your child. Please make sure that your child always has a full change of clothes in their cubby that is weather appropriate. Remember to check your child’s art folder every day and take home their masterpieces. Every day there is a note taped to our door for you that tells you about your child’s day. Please remember to take this home.

Miss Mayra – Please remember to take home your child’s dirty clothes if they have an accident. If they are sent home in Tender Years clothing please wash and return our clothing the next day. Summer is finally here! Please make sure that if your child wears sandals that there is a back strap on it to keep them from tripping. Don’t forget to take blankets home on Friday to be washed and returned on Monday. Clean blankets help cut down germs and illness.

Miss Tamara – Happy Father’s Day to all you great dads. Don’t forget to join your child on Friday June 10th for Doughnuts With Dad! The weather is changing so it is important that your child’s extra clothes in their cubbie are summer appropriate. Please always have a full change of clothes in their cubbie. Don’t forget to check art folders as well.

3 YEAR OLDS

Miss Yoli – Happy Father’s Day to all our Dads! Don’t forget Doughnuts With Dad on June 10th. On June 15th wear your sunglasses and sun hat! Please make sure your child has labeled sunscreen here for those hot summer days outside. Please make sure that your child’s extra clothes in their cubbie are summer appropriate. Check our bulletin board for information on our summer activities. Happy Birthday Colton S. on June 17th.

PRE – KINDERGARTNERS

We are so proud of our Preschoolers and their accomplishments this year. They have tackled extremely difficult material and are very prepared to enter Kindergarten next year. Our teachers have done an amazing job teaching them. We still have some wonderful activities and fieldtrips planned for the summer. Check our bulletin board for more information. Please make sure we have labeled sunscreen here.

SUMMER CAMP

Sumer Camp begins next week and we could not be more excited! We have so many fun activities planned. Your child is going to have an incredible summer. You should all have received a packet and calendar with all our policies and fieldtrips (please see Diane if you don’t have this). Mondays will be water days. Please have your child bring a swimming outfit or an extra change of clothes to get wet in. Don’t forget labeled sunscreen and a towel. We need your child to be here by 9:00 so we can get to our morning activity on time. Personal scooters and skates are welcome when we go skating, please make sure they are labeled. Your child can bring extra money to the Nickel Cade if you wish.

SCHOOL AGE

It is important that your child has labeled sunscreen here for the summer since we do so many activities outside. Please remember to sign up in the hallway for transportation for the 2011-2012 school year. Congratulations on completing another school year!

Our Big Three’s are having a wonderful time getting to know their new computers. For many of our little ones, this is their first time working with technology. It has been so fun to watch them become familiar with the mouse and keyboard. They are catching on quickly and are working in programs that support our curriculum in areas like math, reading, and problem solving.

INFANTS, WADDLERS, & TODDLERS

Remember to send your baby with a jacket for when we go outside. Please have their name labeled in the jacket as well. If you have older children please do not let them come in the baby room. We try to keep as few people in the room as possible. Please remember to enter the Infant and Waddler room through the West door. We want to keep outside shoes off of our carpet since this is where our little ones play so much. We love our babies!

Bringing the Theater to Tender Years

You have probably heard from your child that Peter Pan and Captain Hook came to visit. This is true! Some darling students from a local high school are performing the play Peter Pan. We arranged to have them come perform and it was wonderful! The children were absolutely mesmerized the entire time. We were very happy to use the wonderful community of Clearfield to bring an arts experience to our center and look forward to more. We were able to get some pictures that are shown below!
