December was a very busy month at Tender Years. The teachers conducted many holiday projects, Santa came to visit, and we had a wonderful Christmas program. Thank you to everyone who supported our Sub-for-Santa and food drive. Monday January 16th is Martin Luther King Day. Please make sure to let the office know if you will not be here.

We apologize for the late arrival of the newsletter this month. It has been rather busy at our household. My husband and I welcomed our daughter, Afton, into this world on Dec. 27th. Thank you for all the well wishes many of you have sent. I will be taking a short maternity break so there will be no Scholastic book orders this month.

News

Christmas Program

Thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas program and all the teachers who put in countless hours of teaching to prepare them. It was wonderful to watch all the children perform for you.

Scholastic Book Orders

Scholastic book orders will be in February.

Infants, Waddlers, & Toddlers

Please check your child’s cubbie of spare clothes to make sure they have a full set and that it’s weather appropriate. It is very important that you label everything as well. There have been some unusually warm days this month. Please make sure the older babies have a winter coat in case we go outside on these warmer days for fresh air. The cold, dry weather along with our constant hand washing makes our babies’ skin very dry, please make sure you have labeled lotion here. Please try not to leave car seats here unless it is absolutely necessary; they take up a lot of space in our room.

2 YEAR OLDS

Miss Nicolle – January 18th is Pajama Day in our class. Come in your favorite PJ’s! This month we are working hard on our shapes. Check our curriculum so you can practice at home. Make sure to label ALL your belongings and that your child’s cubbie has a full change of weather appropriate clothes. Everyday there is a note posted on our door with your child’s name on it to give you information about your child’s day; please make sure that you take this home and check their art folder regularly. Potty Training Tip: Give your child some kind of a reward when they use the potty so it becomes a special event that they can feel proud of.

Miss Mayra – Wednesday, January 18th is our Pajama Party! Please come in your PJ’s! Please bring in a family photo that we can keep and cut; it does not have to be professional. Remember to take your child’s blanket home on Fridays to be washed and then return on Monday. To help prevent mix-ups, please hang your child’s coat and backpack on their labeled hook and label ALL belongings. Happy Birthday Jaylah on January 3rd.

3 YEAR OLDS

Miss Yoli – Thank you to all the parents who supported our Christmas program and holiday party. We hope you had a wonderful holiday. Make sure to check your child’s art folder regularly so you can share in their masterpieces! Please label ALL items including small things like hats and gloves. Make sure there is a full change of clothes (shirt, pants, socks, and underwear) at all times in your child’s cubbie. Please only bring toys for Show-and-Tell. Toys from home often get lost and can start arguments between children. We are collecting shoe boxes with lids for our Valentines Day boxes. If you have any please bring them to our class. Happy Birthday Jacob (6th), Cameron (11th), Molly (15th), Hudson (28th), and Cooper (28th).

PRE – KINDERGARTNERS

Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported our Christmas program. We were so proud of their hard work and performance. This month we are working very hard on our themes and sounding out short words (such as cat, bat, sad, etc.). Be sure to practice short words at home as well. We are also talking about shapes this month. Have your child point out the different shapes that they see at home, in books, and while driving. Thank you for all your support.

KINDERGARTEN

Please try to bring in a little flashlight if you have one for the week of Jan. 30 – Feb. 3 for our Groundhog Day project. Be sure to watch the news to see if the groundhog sees his shadow. Your child is being sent home with reading words to practice; make sure you read them with your child. We are collecting cans (any kind) and Box Tops for fundraising. If your child brings in more than 10 they will get to pick from the treasure box!

SCHOOL AGE

January 16th all the children are out of school (North Davis Prep is also out on the 17th). We have some fun activities planned for the day. Please send any homework or projects that your child would need to work on. Homework Club continues to be a huge success. Parents, please let Miss Judy know if you have any special requests or if your child needs extra help or attention on a specific subject. We are still in need of some English/Spanish dictionaries if anyone has some. We have installed a typing program onto our computers for children who are working on typing skills.
